  1. Yes those big metal plates on the front can be a little disconcerting :-)
  2. I suppose we could set an inner course for the windrush so they finish with us!!
  3. So for a coloured legal sail Red Head sails: Ian 243297070 For non legal square top Rowan Nosworthy 65569727 or 0419211660 rohan@midcoastsails.com.au Good luck. Where does your daughter usually sail?
  4. I think I have attached a pic of non white sails! I think they look cool
  5. Jim, If you want to be competitive in any class including lasers you have to spend money!!! stop harping on about it. In yesterdays race (Monday) the oldest cat rigged mari finished second in the 14 footers on scratch. he beat at least 2 foam sandwich supper sloops. Even you overtook me in one race with your old boat cat rigged and me in a super sloop. I would be happy to put you on my boat (with your radial racing sail) and me put my sail on your platform and race you. It does not cost money to oil and check the few moving parts on a Mari most people neglect their rudders and sail with helm

  7. If she has a foam boat then I would have thought the sail is still pretty good?? Which one is it?
  8. Would not consider good second hand ones?? As I said the square top is not class legal. There are lots of good manufactures that will build a complying sail including Rowan that built the square top. If she is smaller, then a sail that will flatten off and exhaust would probably suite her better than a sail that holds its power. Ian (Redhead) makes a great sail. it is very forgiving. Just make sure whoever you use that they are aware of her weight and build a sail to suite her need.
  9. The square top is not class legal but if you are sailing at a club level you can choose to do what ever you like and adjust your club handicap to suite. If you choose to sail with it at a regatta that would be up to the race committee to decide what yardstick to apply. generally there seems to be about a 2min penalty for a square top. this weekend Rowan was given the same yardstick as a foam mari. (he was sailing a Mark 1) While he did not win any race he finished 2nd in two race and certainly had similar speed to Mick and myself. He led at some point in at least 3 races but his lack of cla
  10. I am getting old and my eye sight is going, those power stations are very small so hard to spot! I have written to them highlighting the safety hazards they cause. They have committed to painting their stacks fluro lilac to match my sails
  11. The square top went fast!!! looking forward to our next encounter with it, I wander how it goes in 10 - 15 knts. looked great on the water as well. Well done Rowan!
  12. Toukley sees Mick slipping back due to a banana. After two second places today Mick discovered a Banana skin in his hull!!!! he obviously slipped on the banana as he slipped back in the fleet standings after todays racing!
  13. I see you are in Sydney Malcom, Why don't you bring the boat up to toukley this weekend there will be a few Maricats there and you can see the way we rig them first hand!!! come and sail at the regatta. Mark
  14. Fred(David) Grant Ph 0422610811. He has one sitting in his back yard but has not sailed it in a while. He is at Lake Macquarie. His Sister Donna has also sailed with Fred on his but I am not sure how much she knows about the boat. She lives in Canberra so could take a look. Fred also goes down to Canberra to see his parents so maybe he can check it out when he is next there. If you want Donna's Number let me know. I will speak to her on weekend and see if she can be of any help. Mark
  15. This is getting closer!! I am going and I think Mick is toooooooooooooo! You coming Nick and Pat ????
  16. The 5m might be a better option as you can put a jib on them or sail with just the main. The windrush are having their state titles over easter in Bunbury as well!!! why not bring your boats down and have a sail with them as well!. even if is just for one day at least the trip will be a fun day for you and you can meet a lot of really nice people. If you drop me a quick email I will get the times and dates emailed back to you. Mark
  17. There will be 2 sailing in Bunbury over Easter at the NACRA state titles, Why don't you come down?? What do you normally sail. we can probably organise a ride if you want one? Mark
  18. Just Attended a Regatta at Safety Bay (WA) it was the first regatta they have held in about 10 years, there were 26 cats and a junior and mono fleet. The regatta was very well run with good courses and very friendy people! We had 5 t0 25 knots so something for everyone ! 12 Hobie 16s, 13 Windrush and 1 beaten up old Maricat. Thanks Quin for the bolts to hold my rubbers togther. We had 6 well run races, The weed was a bit of a problem on day one but cleared mostly for day 2. The results were very mixed which is great! The first 5 places had Hobie 16s, Maricat and Windrush so the yardstic
  19. This is a great mark 2 fiberglass boat with near new mast, tramp and sails, It has all the gear for racing and is very quick!!! (just ask the windrush sailors)It has all that is needed for supper sloop, sloop or cat rigged on an unregistered trailer with sail box and is ready to enjoy! I need funds to put myself through Uni so it must go. Give me a call to view or sail . Mark 0416122988
  20. You also need to consider that in 5 years from now there will be a lot better understanding of what makes the new sails perform. The thought that the current pin head is being sailed around the race course at the same speed it was in the first season of it's introduction is not valid. the sail has been tweaked with different battens, different techniques etc. In Leeman it seemed pretty obvious that the square top on the super sloops were not being sailed to their potential. the sloops beat most super sloops home in conditions that super sloops should have won in. There is little doubt that
  21. Yes you did pick the race and yes you did win the Port AGAIN! I am thinking Race 2. It must be so very difficult being as good as you are! Us meir humans struggle to keep up with you god like people but we do our best. good luck with new sail today.
  22. 2 Heavy weather races last weekend. score now 4 to Pin Head, 1 to Square top. Square top definatly quicker off the breeze.
  23. You better start practicing with that square top! Score is 4 to Pin Head 1 to Square top. 4 weeks sailing to get some boat speed! What race are we putting the port on! Leigh sailed number 32 last weekend and was right on my hammer the whole way round. it is great that the old boats are still so competitive
  24. So back to my origonal question. any ideas on when to use the leach line? is it something you would adjust all the time or set it up and forget about it??
  25. Still early Days for Andrew as far as changing things go. It is very difficult to set our masts up for pre bend because the turnbuckles supplied with the boat simply are not strong enough, you strip the thread on the turnbuckles if you try, Also the shape of our mast is not as elongated as the other masts and react very differently to pre bend. I played a lot with pre bend with the Pin head, I replaced the turnnbuckles and was able to pre bend the mast. I got several advantages when i pre bended the mast. the first was when I taked with luff fully on the mast just rotated all on it's own as it
