  1. Excellent summary Craig, and interesting observations nickopen. The Qld States was the first time we had sailed with a square top. Up until that point we had sailed with a pin top that was approximately 8 years old. I tried the sail the day before racing with the same settings as the pin top - lose diamonds, spreader rake of around 41, mast rake about 100mm in front of the hatch cover and lose rig. We found the same bend in the mast was achieved by using much less downhaul and a little more main sheet. The only change I made for racing was to tighten the diamonds and decrease spreader rake t

  3. Wind looks good for both days!!! hoping to see a few 5.8s out there
  4. Thanks Bundy Sailing Club, great regatta, very hospitable and well organised, well worth the trip.
  5. Hi Bruce, we are hoping to make it, are we ok to set up a tent and camp at the clubhouse? Cheers Nick NicNac 1450
  6. Hi Brett, 3 mates and i did the trip from redcliffe to tangalooma a couple of years ago on a hobie 16 and calpyso 16. We stayed overnight at the bunkers at Cowen Cowen owned by Moreton Bay boat club. From memory its about 17 miles straight accross, it took 7 hours to get there via Tangalooma, and 2 to get back. The Calypso had a capsize in the bay in 2 knots of wind by having a bit of fun double traping on the leward side, easily rightable in those conditions. Fantastic trip to do but i would definatly try to find another boat to do it with, and plan for at least an overnighter.
  7. Hi, im interested but im in Brisbane, do you have anyone comming up this way? perhaps someone is travelling up for nacra nationals. email is ndrapes@yahoo.com.au, or phone 0411078023 Cheers Nick
  8. Unfortunately I have a 40th on Saturday night, so ill only be able to sail on Sunday once again, hopefully not too hung over.
  9. must be the age! they didnt mention any of that for the 58, its 13 years old.
  10. try CGU, i have nacra 5.8 insured for $7200 for a premium of $209.00 including racing and 10 mill public liability. If youve had boat insurance before they will drop the premium even lower.
  11. So who is sailing Humpybash?? 19th & 20th. Once again i can only make Sunday, i have a wedding Saturday arvo.
  12. Hi Drew and others, Boat is back together after a few reno’s and hopefully ready to sail on the weekend. Unfortunately I can’t make Saturday but I’m hoping to get there for the two races on Sunday. To ensure I am able to enter, I am planning on getting a mate to submit my entry form and fee on the Saturday and get a DNS for the first two races. I’m guessing this will be acceptable, if anyone knows any different please let me know. Cheers Nick
  13. Yeh Drew, i have had the boat out the last 3 weekends now, the only decent wind i have had so far was at bumpybong Saturday just gone, boat went well but i need to do some repairs to the starboard dagger board case. I’m hoping to get to Cootharaba the weekend before all boats and give it a good run. Unfortunately I am tied up on the Saturday 22nd August, but hope make the start for whatever racing they have on Sunday.
  14. Hi Drew, Im looking forward to sailing your old boat as much as I can over summer and hope to gain some experience against other 5.8s, so the more regattas that can be organized the better, just have to work around family commitments. What about other established regattas such as the great race and Cootharaba all boats and cat challenge, it would be good to see the number of 5.8s at these that turned up to the Wivenhoe marathon. Cheers Nick
