humungus2
It was anounced at the Nats 07 presentation that we will be having the 08 Nats with the Nacra guys and girls at Port Stephens (Salamanda Bay). The Nacra guys put on a great show in QLD and it can only be better with our involvment. Prices and date will be posted ASAP. To much time on a Maricat is never enough. ZAX
The expected dates for the 2008 Maricat Nationals at Port Stephens is Saturday December 29th until Friday January 5th. We would be following the schedule of racing as set by the NSW Nacra Association however we would have an inner course set and also triangle courses rather than just Windward Returns as we had in Brisbane. Should be a great event, hope to see a large fleet of Maricats there ! cheers ..
The Bitch
john does this mean the maricats will be sailing from the 29th or do we start on the 1st or 2nd like previous years?
ZAX
Would expect the first races to be on Sunday December 30th with registration and possibly an invitation race on the Saturday. Would also expect a lay day on Tuesday January 1st. Will have to wait on the Schedule of events from the NSW Nacra Association on this. In Brisbane they had Registration, a training session and Welcome BBQ on the Saturday then 3 races on Sunday and lay day Monday.
Emmessee
Not wanting to stir the pot, but is there a chance of starting these regattas on the 2nd January as I can never be away on NYE because of ongoing family committments. I never understand the need to have nationals go over NYE all the frigging time.
ZAX
There is a chance for that, the Maricats have done exactly that the last 2 years. It would depend on what the majority want. It is still possible to run to the Nacra schedule but only count races after the 2nd. The problem with that for 2008 is that January 2nd is a Wednesday. Usually camp sites are booked for a week Saturday to Saturday. At Brisbane a number of the Maricats arrived early and sailed the first races as practice races prior to the National series starting on Tuesday 2nd. The Nacra's run a good schedule with a number of social events thrown in, that was the reasoning behind going back to the full week of sailing. NacraPhelia628
Hopefully I will have a solid schedule for the 2008 Nationals within the next week or so. REV and I will be at Port Stephens to make finalisations on Friday 19th Jan. There are 2 large camping/caravan/cabin parks right near the club so accomodation shouldn't be too much hassle. I am trying to get it sorted ASAP and will let everyone know when it happens.
