Pointed Reply
Mick, Your basic assumption is that the foamies are good for the class. As the seller of these things you probably have a conflict of interest. One problem I see is that IF the foamies get some good results at open regattas then the Yardstick will be changed. While most of us just sail for fun, it is nice to know that you can compete against other 14ft cats and have a chance for a win on handicap. The yardsticks for the Paper Tigers and Windrush are already pretty tough for a normal Maricat. BUT the results at Koonawarra showed that a foamy with a light sailor with a big sail in heavy wind MAY if fact be slower. It will be interesting to see an experienced light weight sailor with a suitable sail racing on a heavy day. Maybe the foamies need a 85kg skipper to hold them down. IF the Foamies prove much faster than the normal Maricats maybe there is an alternative "penalty" than the change in the minimum skipper weights (63.5 to 85kg). Maybe the extra 20kg should be carried at the top of the mast. Just a thought !!!
Pointed Reply
I do not necessarily support any of the Motions I have put forward. Hopefully they will produce some useful and constructive comments. The Motions will require a seconder to be considered for discussion at the AGM. Emmessee
I shouldn't comment as I am not a maricat sailor, but if the manufacturer is making these boats then they are class legal as they leave the factory. A new boat will always be faster than a 20 year old boat. That's life guys.
