Pete
While stuffing around with the trampoline track (see post below) I performed the soapy water and blower trick on the Port hull as it was starting to leak quite badly. None of the usual suspected areas displayed any bubbles. Only the front hatch showed a problem, both with the cover and the body to hulljoint. Has anyone else had a hatch that leaked a litre or two on a rough day? I can't believe that it is just a crook hatch causing the leak. We did the leak test with the boat unrigged sitting on its trailer. Is it worth doing the leak test while the boat is rigged and the main strapped on? Bridgehugger
Only a litre or two on a rough day you say. Can't be leaking too badly then. Seal her up and try again. Not too much pressure though. Cheers Rob
Pete
I think a couple of litres is quite a lot for an hours sailing. The other hull is dry, and always has been. With my high body weight I have to keep the old girl as light as possible to keep the good Paper Tigers in sight.
dood
A couple of can of Foamo Fill in the hulls will solve the leaks. Ans also keep you afloat.
knobblyoldjimbo
I had a problem with the track. Have you taken off the tramp and tried the blower? I ended up sealing along the underside of the caravan track then the ends and then the top side of the track. Also had to re-sika the hatch cover and I still get about two litres. I'm thinking it's the hull to deck join. Anyway, got not time to stuff around (till winter anyway when MPASC goes into hibernation) - better to be sailing. Pete
I Have sealed both the hatch cover and the hatch body with that mighty friend of the Maricatters - sikaflex. So I think that area will now be ok. Tested the rest of the hull and it seems ok, but I didn't tip it upside down and test the underside of the black strip. In light conditions the hull is absolutely dry. I will report back after the trial sail.
Pete
Sailed the old girl on Sunday and she only leaked some half a cup. Although not a tough day for a leak test, there is no doubt that the hatch, prior to being sealed, had been leaking heaps. Next job is to replace the alloy trampoline track with the caravan annex track. Perhaps then she will be totally dry!!!!
