Sarge
Hi, Have had a Maricat 4.3 for 10 years or so, but not used it for about 8 years. I have just joined a local sailing club and need to insure it, and I need to provide the insurance company with the hull identification number. I've looked all over (had the hull repainted about 2 years ago) and haven't been able to find an identification number. I think I have the MK 1 model - any information about where this ID is located would be really appreciated, as I am hoping to take my son out on Sunday for our first race, and have to have the insurance all sorted before then. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sarge
It is middle of the night now so will have a look first thing in the morning! Thanks! Am I reading you right re the insurance company? Do not all of them require the hull ID No.?
knobblyoldjimbo
mine has a number (2782 I think) in stick on letters on the side under the rear beam, that's the number I used - can easily be taken off and replaced, not like vin no's on cars. Think up a number - how about 1374, get stickers apply. Job done, insurance obtained go sailing. A Mk1 can be identified by the rear beam/traveller - they're separate, on a mk2 the traveller is part of the beam. Also a mk2 boom has a rail along the top all the way from front to back but that doesn't mean a new boom has been bought.
humungus2
Hi Guys, I am a registered Boat Code Agent. Unless you are going to register the boat, there is no requirement to have a HIN. The manufacturer has only just started putting a HIN on the cats. Yours will not have one. The sail number is under the front beam. You can get your local Boat Code agent to put a HIN on the cat at a cost of $70.00 + travel. Hope this clears it up.
Pointed Reply
If you really want to know the "hull" then: The older boats have their original sail number under the front beam. You need to unbolt the beam to see the number. But the number on the boat may not be the same as the sail. My boat is 31something, but sailed for years as 007 but is now sail number 5008. Also if the boat was pranged the two hulls may be different numbers. My insurer has not asked for a "hull number". Also you could point out to your prospective insurer that you actually have 2 hulls !!
korwich
They also used to put the original sail No. inside the bouyancy tanks, on the underside of the decks. To see if there is one there you will need a mirror and probably a torch. We found a couple of the older cats at Tanilba had a No. there, others had them under the front beam, while some had none at all including my old blue Mk1. Apparently there was no hard and fast rule for placement of identification in the early days of maricat manufacture. Phil
