Dragon41
My 4.3 maricat sits in the backyard (well covered from the sun) with mast permanently up which works fine while sailing cat-rig. I am planning to add the furling jib set-up to go super-sloop. What is the best way to set up so I can take down the furling jib each weekend but still leave the mast up? Pointed Reply
Jibs are now made that can be attached to the fore stay with a zipper arrangement and a halyard. This allows the jib to be removed for those lucky enough to live where their boats can remain rigged. They are still fully compatible with the furler gear and class rules. Humungus Mick from Lemon Tree Passage could help as could Redhead, or a number of other sail makers.
darcy1945
If you are racing, go with the zipper luff, if you want to use your original jib just add a pulley above your forestay swivel, and a cleat at the bottom front of the mast leaving the twin (cat rig) forestays in place, you can raise, lower, tension, your jib easily. You may have to shorten the top strop when you add the pulley. The twin forestays should be slack, tension should be on the jibstay for performance. Dragon41
Thanks Darcy and Rodney. That gives me two choices to work with which I am sure will resolve the situation.
