Stephen G
What should an individual hull weigh to end up with a boat that weighs 50kg? I'm looking at putting in bulkheads but don't want to add too much weight to the hulls. Cheers
tom
Hi Stephen, i was hoping someone would answer this for you, there are plenty of people that have built ply boats that would have the weight for you. I didn't weigh mine last time i had the hulls off, but to get the platform to 50kg i think the hulls would want to be under 20kg each. Best option is to weigh all the fittings that need to go on the hulls, (beams/bolts/tramp etc..) to ensure that when it is all together it is 50kg. Stephen G
Thanks for your reply. I weighed the boat before I disassembled it. It weighed 49kg without the tramp. I'm not sure how accurate my scales are though!
Alex
16kg with no paint is great, anything under 19kg I am pretty sure will get you on or under wieght. (from memory) Hope this helps
Loose Change
too save a bit more weight use varnish instead of paint, the pigment in paint is what adds the weight. But of course if you varnish then your woodworking skills should be up there for all to see. Cheers
