Maricat Mark II wanted

Dr Peter

Recommended Posts

I live in NE Victoria and will travel for the right boat.

What is required are good hulls, very good rudders and tiller assy. The beams, chainplates and bridles should all be in good condition.

A good sail is not required - I have ordered a new one for my current boat (a Mark I) and will fit this to the next boat. I registered trailer not required either - I have one.

I found a sound but unused (it has sat there in the compound for the last 18 months) Mark II at my own club. Asked, via SMS, if the boat was for sale and indicated I wanted to buy it. The owner came back with a very very modest asking price. This is a very sound boat as far as the bits are concerned. Tuning is something I can do.

Bargain!

$1900 invested in Maricat

After lots of time setting up the new boat I finally raced it last Sunday. Conditions were light and shifty. The boat performed well enough to get me first place in the first race (I have a generous club handicap). I'd rather not talk about the second race (alright - I got stuck on the wrong end at the start - the conditions were shifty).

With the new sail (Eastwind) and the raked rig the boat responded instantly to puffs and it definitely pointed higher than my old boat. There is a sloop-rigged Hobie 16 at my club and being boardless too, it used to sail quite similar lines to my old boat. Not any more - I outpointed him easily.

All up - $1900 for a good Mark II Mari + new sail + unregistered trailer.

I'm pretty happy but there were some tuniung issues which I'd like advice about - I'll post these elsewhere.
