ziggy
I am considering buying one of the above WHAT DO THE EXPERTS SAY... Also believe there was a change in manufacturing methods (which effected weight of the 5.8) when did this start. What boat would be fastests and which would be easier to sail...also best crew weight for both' Looking forward to comments from those who know. madboutcats
I wanted an Infusion oh so bad but my crew couldn't handle the spinnaker in a blow so I went 5.8, with spinnaker for distance races. If you love spinnakers go the Infusion. If your comparing a late model 5.8 they're about the same weight to handle on the beach. My crew cant pull the jib on fully on the 5.8 so she hands me the jib sheets for the final tension while the Infusion is easy and self tacking. If your not going to use the spin in 20 knots on an Infusion then you'll get caned in a race.
druggsrus
Neither! Take a look at the Nacra F17, it is a lightweight F18 designed 1 or 2 up self tacker jib, spinaker which the skipper can sheet as the main stays cleated, the F17 smokes the 5.8 and can match the F18 in the right conditions, downside there are not many around to race against
