yipp-yahh
not too much experience in sailing except my solcat 16 i self taught on and loved for about a year 7 years ago (had to sell to help with house deposit), and am wanting to buy a new cat. interested in the 4.5 adventurer for its extra tramp space and its ability to be taken off if required and go one-up, but my question is : If I get the 4.5 adventurer with the optional spinnaker, does that mean the front tramp cannot be used if hooking up the spinnaker? From pictures it looks as though the spinnaker starts from below the tramp, near the dolphin striker, therefore the front tramp would be in the way. true? I dont see too many forums/info about the adventurer, but the hobie getaway is everywhere (but I dont want a hobie, even if they are only 10k). are there any about? is the front tramp worth it (the wife likes the idea)? any word of advice? nacrabat
4.5 adventurer I bought a 4.5 adventurer a few years back. sailed it once with the front tramp in place, took it off and never put it back. I lifted a hull coming out of a tack and the wind got under the tramp and flipped me straight over. Never capsized so fast before! I would also be dubious about putting much weight on the front in any sort of breeze. I still have the boat and love it as a one person sloop rig. The 4.5 is an easy boat to sail and can be very rewarding. Competitive with many 16 footers and larger. Where are you based? We have four or five sailing regularly at Ballina, in season, and there are a few scattered around Brisbane and further up the coast. Also had a "Hobie Getaway" before the Nacra. It was much better suited to the front tramp setup which was open mesh so not so susceptible to wind and water influence. I would not like to nosedive a 4.5 with the front tramp in place!! yipp-yahh
thanks very much for your advice. thinking about what you said, I totally understand where you're coming from. Im glad I asked. I might opt for the 4.5 sports with spinnaker. Thanks.
druggsrus
yipp, we have a 4.5 at our club in Cairns, its yardstck smokes everything, and it is amazing fast, even without the spinaker, points like a bitch and goes hard even in the light stuff, Pt douglas club has a heap of 4.5`s you could inquire to hire one of them for a day or go out with some one from there they sail each fortnight, the other option is the 4.30 nacra we also had one at our club but they perform best in big winds, both carry a good load, unless you are racing the spinaker isnt worth the time to set up, as you can just reach back and forth for max fun without it.. yipp-yahh
Will have to to get up to Port Douglas. How much hassle is putting up a spinnaker? If it takes a lot of effort and not much use for a novice sailor, then I might not worry about it. They look so good though. I went to the nq sprint titles here in Townsville on the weekend and they looked bloody sweet on the F18's.
druggsrus
Yer I was going to go there but had a slack atack instead, well if you leave the mast up then the spinaker can stay on that is what I do, but if you take the beast home you have to spend about an extra 15 to 20 minutes to put the spin on and then take it off, if you arent racing then you could just leave it at home, or if you are camping sailing for a coupla days then it will be good, i would get the spinaker but just use it on the long weekends, spinakers are awsome fun! you can smoke a much larger cat if you have a spinaker and he dosent..They are very easy to use, just get some hints on a club day, or if you come to tinaroo jump on board with me...i sail a I17, chocko has a few tubes of it on the net with spinaker up, look up tinaroo sailing in u tube and there is some of the 4.30 and the 4.
nacra-maricat australia
To all concerned,we changed the 4.5 adventurer trampoline some time ago. It has larger gap down the side and middle to let water and air through it.This have proven to be allot better. Plus material used is more open as well.
