ACT results

I've reproduced the results at: http://catsailor.net/forums/showthread.php?4271-ACT-Multihulls-22-23rd-October

The other results of the ACT Multihull Championships concerns damage resulting from collisions. More than a few people were blasting Maricat sailors generally for causing collisions. There may be a few possibilities on why this occurred;

- inexperience and not knowing how to avoid incidents; eg; easing sheets and zig-zagging to slow down, or quickly releasing the jib so the boat will bear off and go behind another.

- not knowing the rules. Please encourage the use of this fun, educational game that teaching the Racing Rules of Sailing: http://game.finckh.net/indexe.htm. Skippers could also download the current rules: http://www.sailing.org/racingrules.php . Or purchase this very well written and illustrated book: http://www.amazon.com/Rules-Practice-2009-2012/dp/0470727888

- risking collisions in the hope of gaining advantage. The points from the Racing Rules of Sailing I want to emphasise are Rule 2 "A boat and her owner shall compete in compliance with recognised principles of sportsmanship and fair play", and Rule14 "A boat shall avoid contact with another boat if reasonably possible".

Come on Tony. Give the guy a break. He turned up. he sailed. he had a major catastrfy with his trailer. it has cost him a packet. If he wants that title I am prepared to suport it because it was as close to Vic as it was to NSW. Well done Dr Peter.

curious how the Victorian State Title was defended at the NSW State Titles' date=' held in the ACT.[/quote']

Tony,

We all belong to one big happy country don't we? Think of it like making sure the railway guage is the same between states - it just makes sense!

Mick,

Thank you - it is a very special day when a Victorian gets such magnaminous support from a New South Welshman.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to the day when we do have Victorian Championships or, failing that, a few more Victorians take the trip over the border.

Peter
