New Cat regatta on Lake Illawarra

Hi fellow NSW cat sailors. Lake Illawarra has not hosted a dedicated catamaran regatta since the Koonoawarra Bay 14' cat regatta ceased a couple of years ago. Port Kembla Sailing Club has put the weekend of 5th & 6th March 2016 into our 2015-2016 calendar to potentially host a cat regatta.

At this stage we are keen for expressions of interest from all cats both 14 foot and larger 16 feet and above. Our Kembla Klassic mixed fleet off the beach regatta has suffered in numbers over recent years due to our inability to cater for mono and cat fleets and their preferred courses.

We truly value your opinion and ask your help in developing a cat regatta on one of the best uncrowded waterways on the East coast.

Your assistance in copying this post to other association and club facebook pages would be appreciated. Respond on the catsailor forum or email treasurer@pksc.com.au for further information. Tony Sanderson & Hugh Lewis..

There's also Paper Tiger Internationals, 24 - 28 March 2016, Auckland NZ. Boats attending this regatta are typically stuck in a shipping container for 4 weeks either side of the event (27 Feb - 24 April). http://www.papertigercatamaran.org/

Any chance the Kembla Cats could go to early December instead?
Tell YNSW that it's part of "Sail Sydney", facilitating racing for the classes they exclude in their snobbish regatta. http://www.sailsydney.org.au/

Tony

See how well attended this regatta goes.

The only problem with a December date is our main Kembla Klassic regatta is the last week in November so to hold one in December really puts a big ask on the volunteers who support these events. PKSC puts on cracker regatta mainly due to the support the sailers get from a large number of volunteers who put here hand up, which we really appreciate so we are pretty mindfull not to over do the events.

Due to our proximity to Sydney we are getting many requests from other classes to conduct events plus our juniors are starting to become involved in regattas, states and nats so a lot of our volunteers want to support their kids at these events in MJs and Flying Elevens which is the way it should be. So far this season we have just conducted the Laser East Coast Champs and next week the first heats of the MJ states with the KK in 6 weeks time.

Raise the timing with Tony and Hugh. I'm sure they will see what they can do.

Paul

Dont forget the IYC Australia Day Regatta on Lake Illawarra

PKSC has KK on last weekend in Nov and only 2 sailing dates 5th -12th Dec  before  Xmas break with the 12th being Club Xmas party. I doubt the club could hold the KK and Cat regattas back to back weekends before Xmas.
