Pointed Reply
No you don’t ...... You need a decent Mk2 with a reasonable sail.
darcy1945
Yes. but as Rod says, a good sail on a solid Mk2 is a better option for club and social sailing. I do have some good race sails for sale, and some very good stock sails cheaper.
Krissy
Ok then so the only thing that really annoys me about my boat is the traveller mk1 set up. Is it easier enough to replace that? In saying that the tramp is getting tired. Ohh sails, yes please tell me more. I would like a racing one please.
darcy1945
Near new set of Redhead sails, $1200. Good used set, $800, will separate, ie, mainsail only, near new, $900 and used, $600. Rod could have a look at them next time he is up, or, at Oberon in a few weeks.
knobblyoldjimbo
If your mk1 traveller has only four rollers it could be upgraded to a six roller one, least I think it's six. That makes a big difference. Some have replaced the traveller cleat with a Spinlock which again makes operation faster. Like all boats there's plenty to get and try. knobblyoldjimbo
Most recent sails, ie built in the last ten years are all good. The Eastwind sail I use must be about 10 years old and it still works like a new one, although it has only been lightly used. Mine is cross cut, the fancy ones are radial cut but there's no real difference. At manno, one of the guys has a sail that must be 15 or 20 years old and it still sets beautifully. It is cross cut and was made for one of the gun sailors.
exhogger
Darcy, the 'near new' sails you mentioned, I am thinking about a jib. Does it have a zipper luff. Ross
darcy1945
Yes, 2 zipper luff jibs for sale, Ph 02 43591729
Krissy
Movement of travel is only a little annoying but I dislike how the ropes get caught in the gap. So I am 60 kilos which sail would be best suited to me?
darcy1945
At 60kg, a flater cut main is most suitable. Couple it with a wire luff furling jib, if you wish to sail sloop or super sloop.
