tjhowse
Hi all, I'm looking at buying my first boat, a 14' Caper Cat. My wife and I have done a fair bit of sailing on monohulls but want to pick up something pretty cheap and cheerful we can trailer around for weekend sails on Wivenhoe and in the bay. Tomorrow I'm going to have a look at this one: https://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/sailing-boats/caper-cat-14/297981 My inspection checklist is currently: Soft spots on top Soft spots on sides Joins between aluminium and fibreglass Cracking around fibreglass joins Mast step cracking Mast straight Rudders OK Cracks around rudder mounts Trampoline wear Sail boltrope Sail eyelets Blocks I think the asking price is pretty reasonable if there's nothing too egregiously wrong that can't be seen in the photos. A better specimen would set me back 2.5-3k. I'm pretty comfortable with aluminium welding and fibreglassing if minor repairs are required, but I'd rather avoid a dud all the same. Has anyone got anything else to keep an eye on? Cheers, Travis.
