Inaugural Formula 16 Australian Championships

Friday 10th to Sunday 12th April 2009

Conducted by Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC)

The organising authority for this event is the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC).

In association with the Australian Formula 16 Catamaran Association.

NOTICE OF RACE

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing and the Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Yachting Australia.

1.2 Racing rule(s) 44.1 will be changed as follows: A two-turn penalty will be replaced by a one-turn penalty. The changes will appear in full in the sailing instructions.

2 ADVERTISING

The Regatta is designated a Category C event in accordance ISAF Regulation 20.

3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

3.1 The regatta is open to all boats of the Formula 16 class. (Most cats up to 5m. Fit with or without spinnakers.)

3.2 Entries are open to residents of all Australian states.

3.3 Entries will be accepted at registration.

3.4 Entry is conditional upon the following:

• All boats shall be covered by third party insurance cover of not less than $AUD 5,000,000 for any accident. Insurer and Policy Number is required on the entry form.

• All skippers must be members of the Australian Formula 16 Association.

. All competitors must be financial members of a Yacht Club currently affiliated with Yachting Australia through the relevant State Authority. Yachting Australia membership number is required on the entry form.

4 FEES

The entry fee is $75

5 SCHEDULE

A briefing will be held at 12 Noon Friday. The aim is to run as many races back to back as possible. The first start will not be before 2.00pm Friday.

Saturday morning back to back races will not start before 10.00am the aim is to run as many races as possible finishing at aprox. 12 noon.

Saturday Afternoon “Around Raymond Island Race” will not start before 2.00pm

Sunday morning first start will not be before 10.00am the aim is to run as many back to back races as possible, with a lunch break if possible.

6 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available after 09:00 hours Friday at Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club.

7 VENUE

Racing will be conducted from the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club.

8 THE COURSES

The courses to be sailed will be Windward and Return as described in the sailing instructions. Except the “Around Raymond Island Race”

9 PENALTY SYSTEM

Rules 44.1 are changed so that only one turn, including one tack and one gybe, is required.

10 SCORING

10.1 3 races are required to be completed to constitute a series.

10.2 (a) When fewer than 4 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores.

(b) When from 4 to 6 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score. When 7 to 8 races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst 2 scores.

11 RADIO COMMUNICATION

A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.

12 PRIZES

Title to be awarded is – Australian F16 State Championship Winner.

Other prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the organising committee. These may include prizes for makes of cats where more than 5 are present, by prior arrangement with the contacts below.

13 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

14 INSURANCE

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $5,000,000 per event or the equivalent.

15 AGM

The AGM will be held during the event at a mutually agreeable to class members.
