mal gray
What a top day! 15-20 kts from behind. Spinnaker run for 40 miles. Lots of angles to ensure we went around all the required navigation marks, so lots of gybing and some really tight two-string spinnaker reaches. About a dozen F18s in the fleet of 34 big cats which also included 5.7 with kite, Nacra 5.8 and an F16. F18s were first to every mark. Mal Gray and Adrian Fawcett (Sunstate Hobie) held the early lead. Taylor Booth (skipper) and his famous Dad Mitch (crew)on Hobie Tiger(Derwood's Revenge) snuck through about five miles down the track. Neville Thompson and Shamus sailing Hobie Tiger(Stealth) powered through to eventually be a blip on the horizon. The first Capricorn Donk sailed by Brad Collett and Luke McDonald slipped into third at the Coochie Mudlo checkpoint. (Freck and Phil on Grafton Glass had the bit between their teeth and carried their kite on some insanely shy angles after overshooting laylines but it all went pear-shaped when they stuck it in, off Cleveland and turtled in the mud. This allowed Scott and Leon on Hobie Tiger (Ultimate Sails) to gain a place F18 final placings: 1 Stealth 2 Derwoods Revenge 3 Donk 4 Sunstate Hobie 5 Ultimate Sails full results soon Put it in your diary for next year.
