Scarecrow
After looking at the results from the F18 Nationals a thought occurred to me. Is there a limit to how many people can be attracted to any given Cat fleet in Australia? Thinking back to the Hobie nationals of the late 80s early 90s, we tended to get approx 40-50 16s and 30-40 18s with smaller fleets in the single handed classes. Despite apparent growth in the class the F18 Aus Nationals seem to have had a similar number of contestants every year since they started. So out of interest what are the bigger fleets people have experienced in the last 20 years and are any classes genuinely bursting at the seams? catsailor.net
Scarecrow, The numbers at the Nats this year were low because of the timing of the event and the fact it was held in Melbourne. Only 3 boats came down from Qld and this impacted on the numbers. We have over 70 Boat owners in F18 across Australia - Many are planning on attending the Worlds in Yeppoon and could not justify the cost of both events. mal gray
The venue for the Nationals usually determines how many will attend. Hobie 16 open nationals have reached 80 in QLD in recent years.
