bad dog
Hi all, I am looking for new rudders/tiller arm for my A Class. Has anyone had any experience with the Dotan rudder system? See http://www.dotan.com/ Looks similar in operation to a Hobie, but much lighter.
Alex
If you are in Aus, AHPC sell Capricorn rudder stocks with lock down mechanism, for somewhere around $425/pr. Throat is 26mm. Don't know the price of the Dotan but shipping might bring it up a bit. Something to consider if yoy have no luck with the Dotan.
bad dog
I got a quote from Dotan - A$1250 plus freight. Bargain. Old rudders looking pretty good at this stage.
Loose Change
And that I would say is effectively the end of Dotan in Australia (not that they ever had a beginning). With prices like that sailing is becoming an elitist pastime. Did you write back and tell them they are dreaming?
lachy pudney
What exactly do you get for the $1250??
bad dog
You would get the rudder box with their nifty kick-up system (over-centre lever slaved to the lifting tiller arm), and blades. Not pintles or rod. Yep, at $1250 they are dreaming. Nice system though - I wonder if it would be practical to DIY... (now I'm dreaming!)

Loose Change
Lachy! Stop it ... go and make a set of blades for your boat. It's not rocket science, it's mainly care and patience. Harry
