steve_garlick
Hi all, Can some-one tell me how much rake should be in my diamond stay spreaders on a 5.8? Is there a way to get the correct tension (or close to it) without a loos gauge? New owner with a million questions! Regards, Steve
dryzabone 644
Hi Steve, Have a look at my post on 5.8 Hull Alignment. About the only thing I am thinking of changing is moving the rake more to 45-50mm after advice from a previous world champ who can't jump off his own deck ... Something else to check is to run a stringline down the mast to check it is straight before you evenly tension the diamond wires (count the flats on the nuts as you turn each side). Supposedly .. if you can just push the diamond wires to the mast approx 300mm above the lower attachment, then you are in the ballpark. steve_garlick
Okay, I found my mast isn't straight. Do i just differentially tighten the diamond stays to make it straight? At first glance, it appears that the spreaders arn't swept back equally? I'll check that tonight. Thanks for the advice. Steve
