International F18 site

This could be an interesting site in the future. Who is on the F18 International Committee ?

The F18 World Council is compromised of one representative from each registered National Association, (at the moment BEL, FRA, ITA, GBR, GER, NED) entitled of 1, 2 or 3 votes according to the national boat numbers, + the Chief Measurer + myself as chairman of the ISAF Multihull Committee.

SUI, CAN & USA will be welcome in the near future.

The Class would really be happy to welcome Australian sailors.

From the F18 website

The World Council unanimously welcomed the submission from the Dutch F18 Association. Whatever, as it would be good for the class to hold the 2005 Worlds outside Europe, and according to the decision previously made concerning World and European Championships, the World Council proposed to keep the opportunity to swap the 2005 Dutch event into a European Championship, if any proposal would come from Australia or North America to host the 2005 Worlds.

Final decision to be made during the next 2002 December meeting.

Here's some constructive critism of the "International F18 site"

First impressions count. the current site says to me, we whipped this site up in MS frontpage in about an hour or so.

None of the pictures in the photo gallery work, which just smacks of an un-professional attitude.

In the thousands of f-18 sailors, there must be at least one with some web authoring skills, have a competition, put an add on the page, ask around, whatever, just DO something!.

Have a look at your competition, http://www.f18htclass.com it really is chalk and cheese.

Not bad Kevlar, I know all too well how a committee works, you say something is broken, so you end up fixing it yourself.

I wasnt putting it down, as much as bringing it to the attention of people who should know better. obviously some one thinks its good enough, when it quite clearly isnt.

If I were against the class, I would be posting stuff, like, wow thats a great website, and an excellent example of the way the class is run.

But yeah no worries, for a fee I could arrange to have it fixed.

So hood,

Kev is right - you have way too much time on your hands. The site is fine. Yes they have a problem with the gallery, but I'm sure that if you had just emailed the guy that is running the site instead of slagging them off publicly, then the problem would be fixed pronto. I think the site is great, and not due for the critisism that you bring. It is easy to find your way around and is informative, which is what it is all about anyway - information, not art awards.

Your absolutley right Pete, on any other day I might have just walked away...

I filled out thier little feedback form:

Dear Sir/Madam

I was wondering when you are planing on upgrading your website, currenty the photo gallery does not appear to work correctly, and the general feel of the website is, that is a bit of a rushed job, the content is good, but the layout could use some attention. Under normal circumstances I would not see a problem, but as I understand it, this is the International website for F-18's and as such is representing F-18's everywhere, and I for one, would like to see them being shown in the best light possible. This site should be the shopfront for the f-18 class, and help sell the boat to the mass's, a more professional website would certainly help that.

If I can be of assistance, please let me know, as I have many colleages who specialise in this area.

Regards

Darren Flanagan.

only thing is, after I submitted it, I got this:

Les données ont remplies correctement.

Envoi des informations en cours... Fait.

Merci d'avoir pris le temps de remplir le formulaire.

Anyone want to translate?

BTW: Its dark at 8.30am and sunset is @ 5pm down here, no wonder I have time on my hands!

Dear friends,

I have checked the website this very day.

The Gallery seems OK now. I sent a response to HooD, with copy to all of you.

I have prepared a new look for the pages, more "modern". I hope to be able to load it soon.

Any help will be for sure welcome.

Could you please send to me your events calendar (or any link to), in order I can put it on the site.

Wishing you as much fun as we have now in Northern hemisphere (Summer is coming !),

Regards,

Olivier

To HooD :

Les données ont remplies correctement.

Envoi des informations en cours... Fait.

Merci d'avoir pris le temps de remplir le formulaire.

That means :

Form correctly filled

Sending informations ... Done.

Thank you for the time you left to fill the form.

The reason is I am using a French server... much more convenient to me !

Regards,

Olivier

Thank you Oliver, for your very timley reply, I have taken note of your points, and understand the challenges you face.

I did test the photo gallery this morning, and its working fine for me now smile.gif

Maybe, some of the larger manufacturers could lend you a webdesigner or two, I would be surprised if they didnt have them on staff. (possibly a good word from a local Hobie dealer might help).

It would certainly be in the best interest of F-18 manufactures everywhere to have a spiffy int website.

Is there any chance of the author of this website dontating a few hours work for the cause?
