QB2
From the number of DNC/DNF's at the All Boats Regatta at Lake Cootharaba on the weekend it seems that only the brave/experienced or foolhardy ventured out in the blustery conditions. Are there any reports on how the weekend went? Mal Gray/H16 the only cat to finish in race 2? QB2

mal gray
It was howling all weekend. After race one, held in upto 20kts, many boats waited for race two but as happens in mixed regattas, the fast boats have to wait ages for the slower ones to finish. Most decided to head for the beach while the dinghys were finishing and the breeze was nudging 25 kts in the gusts. At the start of race two, all the old guys were ready for a blast- Kenny Simmonds , Neil caldwell and Vic Collett, A- Class, lined up for a start against Tards/ Sarah and Mal/Trish on Hobie 16s. All the rest of the pussy cats had run for cover!! With ten seconds to go, Tard's mast fell over the side and the rest of us took off. Neil crashed in a spectacular chinese gybe whilst sailing upwind 200m from the line. Vic retired and Kenny gave up when the mighty Hobie 16 passed him on the second upwind. The breeze was hitting 28 kts and it was bloody cold! The whole race was an exercise in futility, cause the scorer mysteriously chucked the race out!! mgman
it appears scorers have little sense of humour sometimes.... for obvious reasons this needs to remain anonymous although on performance last time out I hardly troubled the scorer.... bit like an australian opening batsman...
