QB2
Can you cut down mylar/kelvar tri-radial sails to use on small beachcats without losing strength or sail tweakability? and without costing an arm and a leg?
knobblyoldjimbo
I'll put in my tuppence. NO definitely not. You'd have to pull the sail apart, recut the panels and then resew it. I've only sailed with one once (borrowed a Mari sail - caused me great expense, had to buy a new one it made so much difference to performance!). I would say that the panels that go up the leech are quite critical in carrying the load whilst also having to participate in the shape. It was that that made me go for a cross cut sail. I've had a main cut down - it was an Etchells main, had about a third cut off for a Careel 22. Worked very well but it was a cross cut so the basic structure wasn't impacted. Good luck though if you do.
