papayamon2
I sail the equivalent of an older Windrush -- called a Trac 14 here in the USA. I've rigged mine with a furling spinnaker for the past couple of years attached about a foot above the mast hound where the sidestays and forestays attach. Here's my question: How far up the mast can I safely go to attach the top of the spin without risking a permanent bend in the mast (assuming leach tension, of course)? I'd like to try a larger sail and would rather not learn the hard way! Can anyone share success or failure from experience? Thanks! Kevin
TornadoSport260
I have rigged a H16 kite on a Windrush. It had to be mast head to deal with the luff length of the kite and in 10 knts with leech tension it did tweek the mast.
papayamon2
Thanks for the info. In my case, I'm cutting a nylon headsail down to whatever size I deem best, so I can slide down from the masthead to whatever height is deemed safe. berny
Don't forget the sheet angle will change and your sheet blocks will need to be relocated to suit a different sail height.
