spike
The first event of the SEQ Traveller Series starts on the 24th of September at the Humpybash Regatta, Humpybong Sailing Club. The series will be held over 10 regattas between Clarence River and Hervey Bay during the 2011-12 season. We have secured sponsorship for the series with over $5000 of prizes on offer. Entry into the series is free, but you must sail a “class legal” NACRA and be a current member of the Queensland or New South Wales NACRA Association. The Series is designed to encourage NACRA’s to attend a number of open regattas. Results for the traveller series will be taken from final results for each of the races of the nominated regattas. The activities of the series will not interfere with the normal running of the nominated regatta’s. There are two competitions; the first is for major overall prizes (including a $2000 shopping voucher at Brisbane Catamaran Center) this will be determined by a raffle draw at the end of the season. To get tickets in raffle draw you must compete in at least 25% of the nominated races for the season. The number of tickets you get will depend on where you finished in relation to other NACRA’s in your division for the nominated race. If there were 10 NACRA’s in your division, and you were the first NACRA on corrected time, you will receive 10 tickets in the major prize draw. The more boats that attend - the better you place - the more chance you have of winning. Tickets will be allocated per skipper not boat. The second competition will be a straight points one. If more than 5 boats in your class register for the series you will be scored as a separate class (if not you will be in a misc. class). Your best 60% results will be used. Trophies and prizes will be awarded from places 1 to 3 in each class. The series is a great way to get out and experience other clubs and enjoy some great Nacra class racing. The information flyer, membership form and Traveller series entry form are all posted on the Qld Nacra Association Forum (http://forum.nacra.asn.au)

Leadfoot
I know this is a bit late for suggestions but I am on holidays. Would it not be better to remove the cumpulsory membership to a Nacra association from the entry and make the State titles a cumpulsory condition of entry. This I think would get some of the sideliners out there to turn up at the early events. Then if they see they are competitive and/or enjoy themselves then they will continue with the crux that to compete at the state titles they will have to join the association. It kills the need for them to fork out the membership at the beginning which might make them keener to attend
spike
Membership and Entry Fees Hi Leadfoot, we originally considered charging an entry fee to the series but decided not to and instead make membership to the association a requirement. By doing this we are hoping to get more people to join the association and become more involved in the class. I do not think this is unreasonable as the membership to the association is only $30 for first time members. We will be accepting entries at every event we visit during the series - so if any sideliner decide they would like to be part of the series at any time they can do so - remember they only need to compete in 25% of the nominated races during the season to be a part of the end of season prize draw which has over $5000 in prizes on offer. Once again there was a great turnout of Nacras with a fleet of 27 boat attending each of the 2 days. The 5.8 fleet is getting larger a each event, 12 boats sailed the regatta and providing some fantastic class racing with some great tussles across the whole fleet. There was also a good turn out of 16sq and 4.5's a number of different winners in each event. As alway the southport club ran the perfect regatta ensuring a great time was had by all. spike
Event 9 seq nacra traveller series - state titles Event 9 of the SEQ Nacra Traveller Series was the Nacra State Titles held over the Easter break at Humpybong Sailing Club. Once again we had a great rollup. 35 Nacras enjoyed some great class racing which included 10 x 5.8’s and a strong fleet of 16sq’s. It was also fantastic to see a couple of 14sqs, a 5.2 and a 5.0 in the fleet as well as the first appearance of the new F16. Results are attached. As with all Nacra class racing it was good to see some older boats with great speed and still competitive despite their age, it is a real testimony to the stability and longevity of the Nacra class. Event 10 of the Traveller Series is the Peel Island Marathon to be held at the Cleveland Sailing Club on Sunday 6 May 2012. See their website at http://www.cyc.asn.au/ The remaining events in the Traveller Series are: Event 10 – Peel Island Marathon – Cleveland Sailing Club - 6 May 2012 Event 8 (rescheduled)– Bundaberg Regatta – Bundaberg Sailing Club – 26-27 May 2012 Event 11 – Wivenhoe Marathon Weekend – Brisbane Valley Sailing Club – 9 – 10 June 2012 Hope to see you there. Don't forget, the 2013 National Titles will be held at the Hervey Bay Sailing Club in the January, Hervey Bay is a great place for a family holiday and the sailing is always good. If you are thinking about coming, book your accommodation soon because a Scout Jamboree at nearby Maryborough will make accommodation difficult to find closer to the event.
