Dave
Hi Michael, So this is definitely going to be the Windrush States? I wasn't aware of that. Note that this is not a problem, we would love to host the States again. I just want to ensure it is covered in the Sailing Instructions. Regards, Dave. Dave
OVERALL RESULTS Koonawarra Bay 14ft Cat Regatta Only a very small fleet competed in this year's event, with just seven boats entered. The low numbers were no doubt heavily influenced by the massive amount of rain in the days leading up to it. However, the quality of the fleet was certainly high, and they came from a wide area, with three boats from Lake Macquarie (two from Mannering Park, one from Toronto), one from Kurnell, one from Port Kembla and two boats from the home club. There were four Windrush Super Sloops and three Paper Tigers. Light winds were predominant, with 6 knots or less out of the East on Saturday, interrupted by a storm that kept the fleet ashore for a couple of hours around lunchtime. Sunday saw a bit more, with the breeze coming more out of the SE at 6-11 knots, after a delayed start waiting for it to arrive. The final race, on Sunday afternoon, was started in the best breeze of the weekend, building to around 12 knots. However, a storm appeared shortly after the start and continued to roll across faster than any I can ever recall seeing there. As the leader, Ralph Skea, entered the second beat, lightning started appearing on the escarpment and the race committee decided to abandon the race. The fleet made it to shore safely as the storm rolled across. Across the weekend, the racing was very close. Paper Tigers were first across the line in the first two races. The Windrushes struck back, winning the next two races, but not by big enough margins to win on yardstick. Ralph Skea had a large lead at the first mark of the final race and was looking good for another win before the storm ruined the fun. As only four races were sailed, a number of ties resulted. Of the seven entrants, six were on ties. As the first two boats overall had equivalent places, the second part of the ISAF rules for breaking a series tie was employed, separating the boats on the results of the last heat sailed. This gave the overall win to Ralph Skea, from Jon Pinkerton, with Michael Pfeffer in third. Congratulations Ralph! The event was used as the Windrush NSW State Titles. Congratulations to Michael Pfeffer who took the title with four straight wins, from his father Warren, who had four second placings. Third place had to be decided based on the results of the last race. Third went to Tony Sanderson, with Rohan Pura missing out on the prizes in fourth. Thanks to all who competed and especially to those who travelled. The racing was excellent and was great to watch. 1. Solitaire (Paper Tiger) Ralph Skea (Koonawarra Bay S.C.) 1-2-2-1, 4pts 2.
