jakemildren
This weekend at the yacht club there was abit of a debate going over wire vs dyneema stays. Why don't people use dyneema? What thickness you you need for a mosquito catamaran?
knobblyoldjimbo
Look on the A cat space on sailing Anarchy, looks like it saves around 1kg. If that's the case then is your mozzie down to weight?
HooD
Dyneema rigging is lighter than stainless steel wires, easier to work with. cheaper by the time you take away all the swage's and thimbles that are not required or can easily be re-used. what makes them not so attractive is the stretch between loaded and unloaded. basically its all good if you can leave your rig setup all the time. but as soon as you take it down all the ropes creep up and change lengths. basically it makes it very difficult to repeat your setting from week to week. good news is with each passing year the technology gets better and cheaper. its not quite there yet but i think in a number of years synthetic rigging will become the norm. lets face it how many years did it take us to adopt dyneema trap lines, and they are just a god send!
