The Goolwa to Meningie Race in South Aus, Australia's longest freshwater race is on again Saturday 15th of November 2014, it's the 51st anniversary of the 63km as the crow flies adventure race with fantastic scenery, winding through the lower lakes and reaches of the River Murray in South Australia, this entire course was dry 3 years ago due to the drought with a bund put across the river to hold water at Goolwa now it has 640 square km of water in the 2 lakes. This is the most adventurous distance race I know of in Australia it starts at Goolwa, goes down the Goolwa channel across the top of Lake Alexandrina through the creek called the Narrows, then across Lake Albert to Meningie. It might take you 3hrs or 8hrs to complete. Whatever the wind at the start most times it finishes on a good sea breeze. Don't let the logistics of getting to your trailer stop you, contact the club or myself as there are some steps in place to assist people. The main trophy for the faster cats is for line honours and the chance to join the history of the event by getting your name on the board with the previous fifty sailors that have won the event, the last few boats to go on that board are Nacra Infusion, Taipan 5.7 and Nacra 5.8. There is a fleet handicap trophy which is the main trophy for the whole race, any boat can win this one on their day, then there is handicap trophy for VYC lower than 76.5 and trophy for VYC higher than 77 plus a similar amount of trophies for the mono hull fleet
