tonyquoll
Hey Rod; see if we can tie this one like Batemans Bay! It's also a Paper Tiger NSW traveller series race, should be great fun. I'm hoping to test out a new boat there, and it'll see Max Dogger racing on a decent boat for the first time too. Where do sailors usually stay during this regatta? [This message has been edited by tonyquoll (edited 10 September 2009).]
h20melon
I hope they will guarantee wind for the entry fee they are charging this year - $60. Would be interesting to see if numbers drop because of the fee.
Pointed Reply
You can stay with my in-laws while Zac and I stay at the club. An airbed up stairs in the club is the go. The usual "boat security".
tonyquoll
The Canberra Regatta RESULTS Canberra wind lived up to its reputation; generally light, gusty and wildly variable. The 3rd race on Saturday afternoon held a good 15 knots, so everyone got to test their hiking / trapezing skills. Race Committee set an interesting figure 8 course, which worked well because no matter what direction the wind swung around to, there was always a windward leg, some reaches and runs. The course went near islands, which had variable wind shadows that added to the challenge. Saturday was the better day with warm, sunny weather and decent wind, while Sunday was a cooler, overcast and we drifted around trying to avoid the holes. Some rain washed all the gear (and sailors) down after the races. Following are the official results, formatted as follows; Placing: Skipper name, “boat name”, Boat type sail number: race1,2,3,4,5,6 total pts [worst race dropped] Official results for Division 1 (fast cats): 1: Andrew Collins, “Alphabet Soup”, Taipan 4.9cat AUS129: 1,1,1,1,1,[2] 5pts 2: Richard Hastings, “Toccata in Sea”, Nacra 14sq 15: 2,4,4,[dnf],4,1 15pts 3: Rohan Armstrong, ”Hobie Sports”, Hobie Tiger 1967: 4,5,3,4,3, [6] 19pts 4: Peter Manley & Katie Duggan, “Peter Manley’s Hobie”, Hobie 16 107917: 3,2,2,[dns], dns, dns 25pts 5: Shane Kershaw, “L’il Bro”, F16 AUS029: 6,[dnf], dns,3,2,5 25pts 6: Bill Chadwick, “Altered”, F16 5000: [dns],7,6,2,dnf,3 27pts 7: Rob Curran, “Knock Out”, Taipan4.9cat 99; 7,3,5,[dnf],6,7 28pts 8: J.Evans, “Fly Now”, Taipan4.9sloop 84; 5,6,[dnf],dns,5,4 29pts Official results for Division 2 (misc 14’ cats) 1: Peter Wood, “Bad Attitude”, Hobie Turbo 52349: [2],2,1,1,1,2 7pts 2: Iain Blackadder, “Little Voices:, Hobie Turbo 52256; 3,[5],4,2,4,1 14pts 3: Tom Tester, “Tomcat”, Hobie Turbo, [5],4,3,3,2,3 15pts 4:Brenton Curran, “Salty Lips”, Maricat4.3cat 5599; 1,1,2,[dns],dns,dns 18pts 5; Jim Roberts, “None”, Hobie Turbo 45698; [6],6,5,4,3,4 22pts 6: Edward Louis, “Wombat”, WIndrush14sloop 490; 4,3,[dnf],dns,dns,dns 28pts Official results for Division 3 (Paper Tigers) 1: Tony Hastings, “Tigerdelic”, Paper Tiger 2901: 1,1,1,[3],1,1 5pts 2: Steve Halliday, “Dipsi Danis”, Paper Tiger 3021: [3],2,2,2,2,2 10pts 3: Neil Waterman, “No Name”, Paper Tiger 3038; [5],3,3,4,1,3 14pts 4: Max Dogger, “Pelikinetic”, Paper Tiger 2128; 2,5,[dnf],3,5,6 21pts 5: Des Collins, “Chicken Liver”, Paper Tiger 3027; 4,4,4,5,[6],5 22pts 6: Bill Arthur, “Out of Sight”, Paper Tiger 3039; [dnf],dns,dns,6,4,4 28pts Official results for Division 4 (Maricats) 1: Mark Colecliff, “Pixie Dust Express”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5009: 1,2,[dnf],1,2,1 7pts 2: Rodney Anderson, “Pointed Reply”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5008: 2,1,2,[3],1,2 8pts 3: Donna Grant, “Keepin it up”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5603; [3],3,1,2,3,3 12pts 4: NickWard, “HelterSkelter”, Maricat4.3supersloop 4100; [4],4,3,4,4,4 19pts 5: Lee Forster, “Catatonic”, Maricat4.3supersloop 1001; 5,[dnf],dns,dns,dns,dns 29pts Official Results for Division 5 (Arafura Cadet) 1: Zac Anderson, “Kimba”, Arafura Cadet 88; [1],1,1,1,1,1 5 pts Out on the water all the fast cats started first, then all the rest started together 5 minutes later, sailing he same course except for Zac, who was allowed to sail 1 less lap. “Don’t hit the museum piece” Rod warned us about the Arafura Cadet. Although the official results recorded each class separately, their was some close racing between classes, and some skippers seemed quite determined to pursue inter-class rivalry. If you left wondering “who really won that regatta”? well here’s the answer: ALL ‘Division 2’ boats (unofficial results based on Yardstick corrected time with dnf/dns counted at 18 points): 1: Rodney Anderson, “Pointed Reply”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5008: 2,3,[8],3,1,2 11pts 2: Mark Colecliff, “Pixie Dust Express”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5009: 1,6,[dnf],1,6,1 15pts 3: Tony Hastings, “Tigerdelic”, Paper Tiger 2901: 4,1,1,[5],5,5 16pts 4: Peter Wood, “Bad Attitude”, Hobie Turbo 52349: 5,[8],2,4,4,7 22pts =4: Steve Halliday, “Dipsi Danis”, Paper Tiger 3021: [8],4,3,6,3,6 22pts 6: Donna Grant, “Keepin it up”, Maricat4.3supersloop 5603; [11],7,5,2,7,3 24pts 7: Neil Waterman, “No Name”, Paper Tiger 3038; [10],5,6,8,2,8 29pts 8: Iain Blackadder, “Little Voices:, Hobie Turbo 52256; 6,14,11,10,[14],4 45pts =8:Brenton Curran, “Salty Lips”, Maricat4.3cat 5599; 3,2,4,[dns],dns,dns 45pts 10: Tom Tester, “Tomcat”, Hobie Turbo, [13],11,7,11,10,11 50pts =10: Des Collins, “Chicken Liver”, Paper Tiger 3027; 9,10,9,12,[12],10 50pts 12: Max Dogger, “Pelikinetic”, Paper Tiger 2128; 7,13,[dnf],7,11,14 52pts =12: NickWard, “HelterSkelter”, Maricat4.3supersloop 4100; [14],12,10,8,9,13 52pts 14; Jim Roberts, “None”, Hobie Turbo 45698; 15,[15],12,14,13,12 66pts =14: Bill Arthur, “Out of Sight”, Paper Tiger 3039; [dnf],dns,dns,13,8,9 66pts 16: Edward Louis, “Wombat”, WIndrush14sloop 490; 12,9,[dnf],dns,dns,dns 17: Lee Forster, “Catatonic”, Maricat4.3supersloop 1001; 16,[dnf],dns,dns,dns,dns Congratulations Rod!
