Our current cat fleet is,6 Arrows, 3 Windrushes, 2 Maricats, 4 Stingrays, 1 Tornado, 1 Hobie 18, 3 Hobie 16 and a Cobra. Is that where they used to hold a winter cat regatta for many years? -The Polar bear regatta- or some thing similar.

It was organised and run by the Rathmines club. and used to be an excellent regatta with a big fleet of cats of every size competing over a weekend (or I think, it may have been a long weekend?)

The club at Rathmines which ran the Polar Bear regatta was the Lake Macquarie Newcastle Cat Club which sadly is now defunct. frown.gif It was a great place to sail and camp and they ran some wonderful regattas there. Too bad.

The Rathmines Cat Club Closed and their remaining members aproached Wangi RSL Sailing Club to take over their main regattas and some of their assets - to be used to further cat sailing in the area.

We are still negotiating the building with LMCC - but we are having difficulty with escallating rents and insurance co is not interested in unlined asbestos building.

We held the Polarbare Regatta on the June long weekend and incorporated the 1st F18 States - a total of 45 boats. Last years PB had 65 boats.

We also run the December Cat regatta.

Last season we had 5-7 14 ft cats sailing on Saturday afternoons and have exchange visits with Mannering park 14footers.

We also had a "live in" training camp for 24 junior cat sailors from the top to beginners.

This year we hope to get more cats out on saturdays and I am looking at some coordination of events so that lake club events do not clash. We may move the Polarbare from the long weekend so that The Bares and the Monkey do not clash. this will give more sailing. We need to work together a bit smarter so that more clubs do not fail and more enjoy the fun of sailing.
