ashm86
Went to go remove the rollers from the centre line of the trailer today. I got the bow winch assembly off without issue. However, when I tried to remove the nuts that hold the rollers on the central beam there is no hope. I am using an open ended spanner size 15/16" The nuts have slots cut in the tops of them. They have been painted over and are on there pretty good. Any pointers to get these things off? I wanted to re-use them on the end of 4"x4"x8" beams to support the cat. xmatelot
Hi Andrew, It may be that the nuts have split pins through them , same as wheel bearings. pete
ashm86
I looked for that, could not see any at all. I am going to try heating them. Andrew
mitchlb44
My experience with boat trailers is that the nuts can corrode slightly and jam pretty tight! SOMETIMES they will be nice and undo, most of the time they will either shear, or not budge. Angle Grinders have worked for me!
h20melon
either angle grinder and replace the bolt, or sometimes WD-40 or similar spray lubricant can help loosen them
Loose Change
Apply a bit of heat ... use oxy acetylene or Mapp gas or even a propane torch should help. If that fails go with the previous tips. Harry
berny
Soak them in WD40 for a day or two then give the bolt head a few wacks with a lump hammer. Get a good socket and wrench and they should undo. Oterwise oxy, grinder or hammr and chisel.
Bridgehugger
One of the best things I've found for getting corroded bolts and and rusted things apart is Auto tranmission oil. It penetrates and doesn't evaporate like WD40. Leave on over night and if that doesn't work then kill it with an angle grinder.
ashm86
I was able to get them off with an impact gun. I soaked them overnight in some solvent stuff I bought. Thanks for the suggestions.
