Steelnerve
That is going to be interesting to see on the boat. Looks fast even in the shed. Hope they don't break this one like the other masts, that would be nasty coming down.
TornadoSport260
The 1 mast they broke was 185ft with around a 14mm wall thickness... Makes you wonder just how much it weighted... But from all accounts it was a component failure that triggered the mast to fall. Its going to be mind blowing to see it sail. 2-3times more efficient than a standard soft sail rig.
HooD
solid wing on the a-class was no faster than the standard rig. so not always faster...
TornadoSport260
I'll leave it at this hood. They wouldn't have built a 190ft (57m ish) wing if they didnt seriously believe it would be faster. The rig you posted, they own now (i believe) and Gashby has been sailing it and the C-Class cats. The wing on BMWO is vastly more complex than the A Rig you show in that it has twist control. And it has been proven that they produce more power (lift) at a much greater efficency than a standard soft rig. But as with everything with this cup, its all uncharted waters. There has never been a wing sail built this large (its 80% larger than a 747 wing... longer than an A380 wing)

Steelnerve
Interesting to note also is that two of the speed record chasers recently have wing sails.
