when did mk2 mari's begin production and prices?

Plenty of old mar's seem to be coming onto the market but many are neglected and  despite their low cost buyers face the prospect of spending on new sails, beach wheels, sail boxes, new ropes, tramps, rigging and usually new gelcoat along the keels.

From what sail numbers onwards represent mk2 boats and what are their average costs?  Just trying to get an idea of what to look for.

Maris are the only production cat where a good sailor can buy a 30 to 40 year old boat for $500, spend $2k to $3k (Sails, tramp and a few odds), and a weeks work, and expect to walk away from a state or national championship with a trophy. No other production cat (any size) can boast this. The old Maris last, because the original design and build was so sound, no foam sandwich to  separate and cause soft spots, as in the Hobies, no large flat sides that require internal bulkheads for stiffness and bouyancy, as in the Windies. What to look for in a second hand Mari, as close to min weight as possible (Not a boat that was built to survey for a hire fleet), no corrosion in alloy spars/beams (Particularly where stainless fittings are attached), transoms are prone to cracking around pintles,  this is caused by corrosion of the alloy internal casting and is repairable. Mk2 booms and rear beams are preferable (Slightly heavier but much stiffer/stronger). Dolphin striker wires should be replaced every 2/3 yrs. Any questions call me 02 43591729.
