Leon
Hi All, As you are aware, we, Humpybong yacht club are hosting our once a year "Humpybash" Sailing Regatta on the 16th and 17th of February 2008. Boats will be arriving from as far south as Sydney and possibly as far north as Hervey Bay and will range from junior sailors on optimists, and minnows to the larger more powerful senior sailors on their formula 18 catamaran's. The club intends to run two separate courses to keep the Junior fleet and the senior fleets separated. This should make some spectacular viewing from the foreshore of Woody point and Clontarf Beach on the Redcliffe Peninsular and on the waters of Bramble Bay. With all sorts of coloured spinnakers and sails a blaze. Humpybong yacht club expects 45 to 50 boats for this regatta. Some of the sailors From Humpybong Yacht Club, on their formula 18 catamarans will be in training to contest the Formula 18 Catamaran World Championships to be held in Galicia, Spain in July 2008. The tension between these boats will be high and the racing close, fast and furious. Also on the weekend the Mirror Class will be making another appearance, these are a small red sailed 13 ft mono hulls which also has a small spinnaker. The racing is very close between these boats as well. During a regatta they will be contesting their Head of the Bay for their class. Humpybong Yacht Club is also proud of the fact that we will again host junior sailors from around the region. These juniors will have their course set close inshore so that Mum and Dad can keep an eye on them. Most of these junior sailors will be sailing on small monohull dinghies such as, optimists, sabots and minnows Some of these juniors will be sailing on small Arrow Catamarans very fast for a young budding sailor. Humpybong Yacht Club is excited about this as in the close future we hope to have our learn to sail classes in progress bus of attracting more young people to the sport of sailing. These classes will extend to adults learning to sail to hopefully increase membership within our club. The action will start on Saturday the 16th of February 2008 with the first race kicking off around 12:30 p.m., three races are gazetted for the afternoon and will all be raced back to back. This means the boats will remain on the water until all racing is finished for the day. Sunday the 17th of February 2008 will see race 4 commence at around 10:30 a.m. boats will return to the beach for lunch and then again races five and six will be held back-to-back on Sunday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. Some of the action could possibly be heard on the local radio station 99.7 FM with the possibility of some live cross interviews over the weekend. Humpybong Yacht Club would also like to take the opportunity to thank their supporters: Moreton Bay Marine supplies Brisbane Catamarans Centre The Professionals Real Estate Woody Point North Sails Brisbane 99.7FM the local radio station. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
