Pointed Reply
Tony, I am looking forward to coming to Wallagoot. Hopefully I am slowly getting used to the new boat and radial sail. I fill three categories, multihull, learner and veteran !!
Bridgehugger
Yeeha! Am I allowed to compete? I have a Taipan 4.9. Maybe able to get some more interest if you like. Cheers Rob
Pointed Reply
I would have thought that the Batemans Bay and Coila fleet would all be there. Its only just down the road !
tonyquoll
Yes, Taipan is allowed, however be aware the courses are small (about 0.7 nautical mile per leg). If Ross brings the A-class again I'm sure he'd be glad for close competition. Can't say how many local cats will be racing; the curse of the host club puts some in rescue boats. There will be great atmosphere, nice flat water... and of course the WLBC delighted to welcome all entrants. Anyone needing a place to stay I can offer queen-size or bunk beds in the Hostel at Manna Park (10 min away): http://www.mannapark.com.au/ Camping recommended at Hobart Beach in the National Park; on the shore of the lake opposite the club: http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/NationalParks/parkCamping.aspx?id=N0082
Pointed Reply
Tony, Should I book a camp site or just turn up ?
tonyquoll
You'd be OK to just turn up at Hobart Beach; plenty of sites. As it's on a dirt road, you might want to drop off the boat at the club first. There's a self-serve payment system. Nice showers, free firewood & idyllic camping. If seeking a room at Manna Park, it'd be proper to book: (02) 6495 0063. There's a fold-out lounge at my place if anyone needs a Plan B. Very much looking forward to great racing, top company and good times at Wallagoot Lake!
tonyquoll
Fingers crossed for weather as good as last weekend! We had 2 Paper Tigers, 2 Maricats, Hobie 18 and Nacra 14 square loving the 10-15knots breeze. Manna Park Hostel Manager has gone away, leaving me in charge. Special regatta rate now available: queen size bed for $30/night, bunk bed for $20/night: http://www.mannapark.com.au/family.html More info; tony@mannapark.com.au
tonyquoll
Best racing EVER at Wallagoot, with a dozen cats and wide variety of winds. The cats included A-class, Taipan, Hobie 18, Hobie 17, Nacra 14 sq, Alpha-Omega F14, Paper Tiger, Windrush and Maricat. If I get the full sheet I'll post it here later. I thought it was great, that with the range of boats and skippers there, we all had close racing regardless of where in the fleet we were. Wayne a very deserving winner, he sailed very welll and had fantastic speed. The local Maricat guys were in awe.
Pointed Reply
That was Wayne Barry.......old Prima Facie himself............very quick in the stronger wind, not so quick in the lighter stuff and even slower when upside down !! Tony was very quick all weekend. Last race blown out when a storm came through.....very exciting, quite a few boats flattened!! A very pleasant weekend, good club, good racing, good venue. tonyquoll
The story goes that a brilliant new timing device allows a simple click as each boat passes the finish line. Staff on the boat simply record the order boats finish in, then align this list to the finish times, and voila, all the times are screwed up! Not sure how it all went wrong, we were all allocated wrong times for race 3. Nothing to do but accept the results as provided: WLBC Regatta Results, Division 1 - Catamarans Skipper, Class, Race 1, 2, 3, (points), place Wayne Barry, Maricat, 1, 1, 3, (5), 1 Tony Hastings, Paper Tiger, 2, 2, 4, (8), 2 Rod Anderson, Maricat, 3, 4, 1, (8), 3 John Van Meagan, Maricat, 4, 6, 2, (12), 4 Paul Ledudias, Windrush, 5, 7, 5, (17), 5 Arild Helland, Windrush, 6, 5, 9, (20), 6 Tim Symons, Hobie 17, 7, 10, 7, (24), 7 Chris Malcolm, A-class, 10, 3, 11, (24), 8 Richard Hastings, Nacra 14sq, 9, 11, 6, (26), 9 Max Dogger, Paper Tiger 11, 9, 8, (28), 10 Rob Curral, Taipan, 8, 8, 13, (29), 11 Tom Tester, Alpha-Omega F14, 12, 12, 12, (36), 12 R.
