darcy1945
Are there any Grp boats going to contest the Nats ? Dr Pete, Pirate, Rimmo, or am I just wasting time to sail around behind the foamies?
knobblyoldjimbo
1. How many foamies are there? I know of PR, Mick, Phil, Ross, couple of others, how many were built? 2. I think Rimo said he was going, aren't there a few from Ryde too. 3. Stay at Manno - Jerry said he was coming, me too!

darcy1945
Rimmo is out (Boat duty at Manno), sends his apologies for letting down the side. Any other GRP boats?
humungus2
Why not give Scott a call 0423821282. He is not going and I know you would lend him a boat if he asked.
Pete
Will the foamies be that much faster in the flat water??
knobblyoldjimbo
Not necessarily, depends on the circumstances. Darcy usually goes well over 20knots but so does Mick. I've beaten Mick and Phil on their foamies in my old plastic in light, fickle winds. No, I THRASHED them, even caught up with a Nacra 5.8 and a Taipan 4.9 that had started 5mins earlier - but I think I only had to tack twice in that race! Jason used to beat everyone in his #16 boat. darcy1945
It's not the flat water, it's the fact that there is so much less bouyancy in the fresh the extra weight of the GRP boats is more noticeable/detrimental. I'm not going (funeral of mate, late Fri)
Pete
In my case it is the skipper's body weight that is the issue. My mk2 is only 6kg overweight - I wish I was only 6kg overweight!!
darcy1945
I sail at 95/97 kg on an average mk2 GRP, and even in the bouyancy of salt water I have waves bashing the leeward end of the front beam, this never occurred on my Foamie regardless of conditions. Scuttlebutt
Darcy at these Nats it was clearly shown that it is about how well you sail not whether your boat is foam or not. I am sick of hearng excuses about not attending events because your boat is not foam. My foam boat gets waves going over the front beam just as much as my non foam boat. Rob from Concord sailed his old GRP boat exceptionally well and finished 2nd overall with 3 foam boats behind him, including myself. Enough of the bullshit. get out there and sail well and you will win. Time after time at this regatta it was shown that a well sailed old boat could compete. even Tim from ACT sailing with an old coloured sail whipped our arses in the last race and made michael work his butt off to keep a small lead. The standard of sailing at this regatta was excellent and the regatta itself was great fun. 10 supersloops mixing it up. fantastic!!!!
