dryzabone 644
Hi All, Can anyone help me with a method of removing sail numbers & the glue from the sail without damaging the sail?
scumbag#1
Peel off the numbers and use Acetone on a rag to dissolve the glue. (This is for Dacron sails, not sure about Mylar etc.)
Obsession 2016
I have had alot of success with metho and/ or acetone. If there is any sticky residue, dust the area with talc. Try the acetone/metho on a small area first in case you get a bad reaction.
dryzabone 644
Just thought I'd share a better method than acetone etc. Eucalyptus oil has proven much easier to get rid of old sail number glue. Just pour a small amount on the old glue, let soak for 5 minutes or so and scrape off with a plastic scraper. Scrape towards the centre of the number to avoid spreading the gunk around your sail. Repeat with a smaller amount of oil and nail brush for any remaining gunk. This method removes whole numbers in less time it takes a coffee to go cold. Bridgehugger
If your a tall person it's a great opertunity to cut out the numbers and put a clear window in.

dryzabone 644
Give the area a good polish and clean it thoroughly before you put them on. It's a bastard to do it afterwards
