Hi Slammer,

The F18 association will be including the 09 Wild Cat Regatta as part of their NSW traveller’s series.

Any F18 entered into our NSW Series and attending Wild Cat will be eligible to win a brand new Kite or a selection of Sailing Gear.

Sponsored by Greg Goodall Sails, AHPC, NacraXtreme, Nacra Australia

Hi Slammer,

I would suggest that you have less divisions. Travelling from Vic is a waste of time to race in divisions of around 10 boats. Having 2 small divisions with spinnaker boats in them, one of which included non spinnaker boats as happened last year was dissapointing. Divisions need to have at least 20 boats, individual classes can then seperate out their own results if they want.

Regards,

Gary.

Remember some years ago pre F18s, we had a div 3 start with about 70 boats on the line. That made it worth the trip alone.

Port tacked the fleet twice in a row. Gashby and Brewin decided to throw a don't argue on us the second time and it did not come of as clean eek.gif First one was spectacular though biggrin.gif

So true and precisely what we were saying at the club.

Two fleet starts or maybe a third. Hobies, Small cats big cats.

When I say small I was thinking 16ft and less than 16ft.

Bigger is bigger than 16ft.

We would love more 14ft cats to come as they are a great asset to the regatta. A shorter course for the 14's is an option- it's up the the 14's. I would prefer if they had a shorter course and the same number of laps instead of a longer course and fewer laps.

Cheers

Scott

Personally, the 14's stopped coming because it was turning into a 'big boat' regatta and we got sick of having to duck and weave through the bigger boats...

Hence we have our own 14ft regattas now... Koonawarra and Mannering Park. And Mannering Park is the week after the Wildcat regatta so it'll be had to convince the 14's to come to forster and race in a fleet of 10 or so when a week later we'll be racing in a fleet of 30 odd...

My 2 cents.

For someone to go to a regatta it requires a commitment in time money and grovelling to the missus, if when you get there you are sailing endless windward returns all weekend on a cat rigged 14 it gets pretty boring, our guys wanted something to put some interest into the weekend, something that was promised, it did'nt happen. If you go to a resturant for dinner with a promise of a good time and get bad service or are ignored do you go back. Like how hard is it to set one more mark out to the wing? It gets us out of the way of the bigger boats on their screaming spinnaker runs boring down on you for at least some of the time.

My 2 cents

Cheers

Phil

The Great Lakes Sailing Club is proud of the Wildcat regatta. We have been conducting the regatta for over thirty years.

But arrogant we are not, hence we ask for feedback and suggestions for future regattas- something NO other regatta does on an open forum.

If, you are going to make comments regarding the regatta, please make them informed- ie you should have at least attended the regatta.

The WILDCAT is more than what happens on the water, the club organise camping, cater, provide TV and Big screen viewing of the footy finals etc. Ensures all participants are safe and comfortable. To do this the club submits traffic management plans, DA for the event, complies with licencing regulations, liaises with NSW NP and organises support and sponsorship for the regatta.

Further, the clubs members provide their own time for the regatta in the days leading up to and after the regatta, both preparing the site and cleaning up after the regatta. The members also provide most of the rescue and support boats for the event.

Our family too, complain that the event impinges on our family time.

In relation to a reaching course. 2007 included the F18 state titles and the A Class tiltes. The Hobie 16's were preparing for the World titles and requested a course to reflect the titles.

To accommodate ALL participants in the 2007 Wildcat. A windward return course was set with a broad offset mark.

A reaching (wing/B) mark is difficult to manage when wind shifts occur and again last night at a club meeting the discussion centered around a wing mark inclusion.

The club enjoys a wing mark and some of the most spectacular racing was seen along the reach to the B mark. The 2008 and 2006 Wildcats included wing marks and I would go back futher and bore you with the frequency of reaching courses. Over thirty five years would be a reasonable measure.

The Great Lakes Sailing club will continue to meet the needs of all participants irrespective of the size of their boat. We look forward to another great Wildcat and hope to see you again this year.

Enjoy your meal.

Any sailor from any club knows the standard proceedure. Dealing with NSW Waterways, National Parks, Fisheries, Council and the Lands department just to hold a regatta. And yes we put a time in to suport the club on regatta days. Your not the only ones who put on a reggata. We were told one thing a got another. The bottom line is are you going to have a triangle course for the 14's or not.

Simple question. Honest answer please.

Scott - well stated & I will vouch for the generosity of members of your club especiallly after the offers of assistance with accom. when my kids & I got flooded out of our tent with the sudden rain on saturday arvo last year.

For those 14's that didnt turn up last year (in protest...like WTF).....YOUR LOSS. The few of us that did had a great weekend at a great location.

Darcy

There will be a triangle course set. The triangle course will also be for the Hobie 16's and the renewed Hobie 18 fleet and whoever else wants a reaching course. An inner (A) mark would have boats reaching boats crossing with running boats with a significant risk of collision, a common top mark ensures all craft round together.

The GLSC will continue to meet the needs of all fleets and classes wherever possible.

We welcome further input on the Wildcat regatta.

My suggestion would be to have as few marks out as possible for a quicker turn around if the wind shifts. If you are going to have boats compete against each other on yardstick then the course needs to be standard olympic courses, otherwise the ratings don't work properly. i.e. Triangle; windard return; triangle. No need for an off-set mark then.

My only other suggestions/requests are, 1. no rain, 2. 15-20knts from the N/E and 3. 30 degrees all weekend. Don't expect there will be a problem delivering the last few.
